THE WRITER: 20 QUESTIONS BOOK TAG

Another day another tag. I found this on THE BIBLIOPHILE GIRL.

What type of writing do you do?

Novels and short stories. But I’d love to try poetry or writing in verse too.

What genres and/or topics do you write about?

Fantasy. Horror. Usually mixed when I write novels but when I write short stories they are generally horror or dark and depressing.

How long have you been writing?

Since 2009. So what 14 years haha. God that’s so long. I started writing in highschool. While I was supposed to be doing maths I was writing a vampire story. Which honestly was terrible.

Are you published?

Under another name yes. They weren’t good. And taught me a lot of things. And now I’m going to do it again under a different name. Using my knowledge of the do nots to help me.

What was the first story you ever wrote?

So I’m terrified of clowns. So because my brain is mean to me I wrote a short story about a killer clown.

Why do you write?

As an escape from my own self. I also don’t know what I would do with these stories that enforce themselves on me. If I didn’t write them down I’d probably be insane haha.

How do you find time to write?

Whenever I have time. Or I can make myself have time.

When and where are the best times to write?

I’ve come to find writing outside is my jam. Whether that’s out the back, down the beach or camping. It all just frees up my creative mind to write. I also found after doing Nano that morning’s and late nights are my time to write. However, also just making myself sit helps too.

Favourite food/drinks while writing?

I don’t eat and write. I never have now that I think about it. But I do love a good hot tea while I write.

Your writing playlist?

Whatever fits the mood really.

What do family/friends/loved ones think of your writing?

I’ve been told that it’s good. And that they love my stories. I haven’t had many read my works. But the ones that have have been really nice about it.

Parts of writing you enjoy the most?

Those breakthroughs when you have been stuck for a while. Coming up with the characters and finding what they are all about. And daydreaming about the book.

Parts of writing you find challenging?

Finding the motivation to not procrastinate. That’s the hardest part and most challenging for me.

What do you write with and on?

Laptop, note book, scrap paper, sticky notes. Anything I can get my hands on at the time.

How do you overcome writer’s block?

I’m still learning some. But sometimes sitting and watching a show like ghost adventures (especially those ghost hunting shows) can help for some reason.

How do you motivate yourself to write?

Any tips are welcome. This is something I have the biggest issue with.

Authors who inspire you as a writer?

Mary Shelley, H. P. Lovecraft, Benjamin Alire Sáenz currently are the stand outs.

Books that inspire you as a writer?

Honestly it’s more that there aren’t any that I can really point out that made me want to be a writer or inspire me to write.

Best advice you’ve gotten as a writer?

The first Draft is meant to be bad. It’s meant to be rough. It’s ok.

Writing goals this year

I want to have fun writing again. To fall back in love and want to keep writing. I also would love to have my first Draft of this WIP I’m writing done by the end of the year.

Thank you for reading this long post. Until next time.
